We had zero people on during an afternoon today for the first time since we started the server back in February and numbers have been dwindling rapidly of the last month. The admin team may share some blame, taking small breaks from the game and letting the community run while addressing patches and issues still. Players may also just be getting bored.
One of the most surefire ways of getting a resurgence of interest is a wipe. We'd have 20-30 ppl on at night after one with some advertising.
Thoughts? suggestions?
anyone who's stopped playing wish to chime in as to why?

Ah, and the talk of a wipe resurfaces. Im sticking to my original stance, in that we should do a wipe. Though i do understand that the newer(ish) player base might not want the. Ive been on this server for a few months now, and have 1000+ of playtime on this server (though the majority of this time was spent either underwater or in the swamp cave) and have seen ALOT of players come and go, main ones being almost the entire Frostborn tribe, Xipher, and Az; and almost all of them left out of boredom. and yeah, i dont even know why player population of newer tribes have plumted recently. Only real reason i get on anymore is to feed my dinos/structure refresh, level the new race doed, and do loot crate runs; and I've done between 700-750 loot crate run (determined by the amount of loot crate drops i have currently stored) and getting better blueprints than i had before is essentially the only thing i do now since ive been so bored. Actually got to the point where i didnt even want to surface i made a little base underwater made from all metal with 6 vaults inside of it with things that i need(lots of scuba and mushrooms) and to put my stuff from loot crates in.
Over all the reason i seldomly get on now is the game isnt even a challenge anymore, im able to kill level 100+ alpha mosas with relative ease by myself now, and the blueprints i have is "how much can i over kill with blueprints" and, no joke, i have more level 100+ tame mosas than the entire rest of the server combined, as well as at least mc saddle for every single one of those lvl 100+ tames Guess its because NOONE else spends as much inhuman time underwater as i do.
As for suggestions to improve player count aside from wipe, dont really know, one thing that i was talking to another player about was to have an established economic "Guidelines". ie just how much certain things like kibble/eggs would be relatively worth. Another thing would just to have server events more often(aside from races, though i personally enjoy the races), though i know that is sometimes not possible due to the admins schedule(s) or just playing other games cause they to might have lost interest in ark
Ok, did not realize it was gonna be this long, was rambling and just typing what i was thinking

Well, our tribe is nowhere near getting bored yet but that's mainly because we have not been able to get on to play much over the past month. We just got our first quetz three days ago and yesterday we finished building a small all-metal arctic coast outpost since our main base is inland and we are gearing up to start to get into underwater exploration. That said, we will not make it to the doedic race because we'll be on a plane to Indonesia while it's happening and that long-delayed move may result in another couple weeks of not having reliable enough internet to play. It's even possible that we won't be able to get internet service that is fast and reliable enough to be able to play on a US based server at all, though I hope that isn't the case! Either way, we will be back to play if our infrastructure allows, wipe or no wipe. For me, playing on a server is something for my teenage son and I to do together and this server has been a fantastic place for us to do that, I will only look for a different one if I have no choice about it. Actually, I'm not sure whether a wipe wouldn't make my son more excited to play (I tend to think it would just be frustrating since we will lose all we have now be starting over, but he might not see it that way.)

I understand why some may want a wipe as they've been around for sometime now on the server, personally though I'd hate for that to happen. My fiance (Misky) and I just joined in maybe a month or so ago, were still learning some things and building up. I know that I'd be back for sure after a wipe but I can't say the same for her 100%. Not sure why the newer comers have left, many of them were neighbors to us in game, and have just suddenly disappeared with no word. Might have something to do with summer hitting, people might be out doing stuff or maybe playing other games.

Summer does tend to be a slower time for games. I blame Pokemon Go. Personally, I just needed some time away from the game, plus I'm trying to teach my kid to swim, ride a bike and read before she starts kindergarten in the Fall (I know. I'm crazy) so I'm not gaming as much in general. Although as an admin I'll still hop on to help anyone in need and feed the kids. I'm in agreement that the overall health and population of the server will benefit from a wipe. However, I 100% understand that this is not ideal for new(er) players. As a player who has been through several wipes on ARK servers, I can assure you that rebuilding is the most fun I've EVER had in this game. Being afraid for your life is essential to a survival game such as this and it can become stale without any visible goal. The community comes together to help each other that is unprecedented during any other time.

Nope. So against wipes. I didn't spend all this time doing stuff for it to be taken away. Summer is when literally every game suffers in terms of social aspects, people are busy being outside or whatever. Personally i've had a lot of work lately due to staff shortages, and stuff to do in other games which means i'm not glued to this one 24/7. I've recently started playing d&d again properly which has taken up a fair bit of time outside of work/gaming as well.

Oh yeah? Which D&D edition?
Fail, Zephenal and I have been in a rotating group of about 10 ppl for around 20 years. We vote in a new campaign every 6 months.
Fail has a great AD&D 1st ed. campaign. I'm working on a 1st ed Oriental campaign.
Right now we just started a new WoW campaign, second game is tomorrow night.

but in all seriousness, a wipe would probably bring back some older players, as well as alot of newer ones

Hello All, As a newer player I'm against the wipe as I just found my groove in the game. If you are going to wipe the server I recommend to do it ASAP because there's no reason for me to login if it will all be for naught in a short time.
For those that are bored with their high level status they can might consider restarting with a new survivor.
Please make a decision soon. Thanks for your time.

Personally left for a number of reasons which are as follows:
- Got a full time position at work (Plus ludicrous amounts of overtime...) - Very, very bored with the game - The lull in activity while we were waiting for the biome update to drop for like 20 years further increased my boredom and affected my interest when it finally came. Instead of starting fresh I had to pick up and move, not only cause my base was destroyed by a rollback, but because I half-wanted to build in the new biome. I started a little and never finish.
Like I said before, I'd be all for a wipe. Even more so if it also meant a map change. I want to start fresh, but playing The Center would make it that much more interesting.

Summer is a population killer for most games. I've been AFK more times than not recently for family and outdoor stuff. I think games that require the time investment of Ark do suffer from player burnout and the need for periodic breaks. Biome delay didn't help. I'm not bored and really enjoy the folks who game here. Mixed feelings about wipe but will stay with the server either way.

Hello! As a new player as of a few weeks ago, I would not mind a wipe. Here's my two cents: I have been playing ARK for a very long time and was really excited to join your server based on the community and commitment of the Devs. I knew there would be long time tribes and that they would have large bases, and dinos, however I was a little disappointed when I created a new character and spawned into the south and found a base holding 3 Giga's, 6 rexes, and 3 spinos. I do recognize that the player may have been a long time player and maybe they really did get 3 Giga's or maybe it's a whole tribe staying at the base, I don't know for sure. But it made me wonder if people can spawn in dinos? I do not want to kick up dust, because I do not plan to live anywhere on the south beach area, AND I am still excited to be part of the community. Just wondering...

The only "spawned in" Dino that i know exists, is the Admin's Ptera they use for whenever they are going around helping people. a person like me who has been playing for about 4-5 months now, i have two gigas, and also TWELVE Mosasaurs(and counting). So no, Dinos are not spawned in, people just play too much (myself included). Also, best community ever!

Good times. We're not playing any set campaign, just kinda... going as we go. Our DM is pretty cool.

That sounds a lot like the Enron base. We run the server and there were 5 of us to begin with that played nonstop. We had probably 30 rexes at one point, and 10 gigas, but we purged some and kept only the best. The server has been up since the end of January so there's been 6 months of play time on a buffed exp, taming, breeding, hatching server. Only two of those gigas were caught, the rest were bred between other tribes. But yeah, 6 months the server has been going and that is the founding tribe. 3 of our team have taken a hiatus while Nails and I keep the server running, we're hopping into other games too. We read the forums multiple times a day and stop into the server once a day to check on things. If you need anything from us just post!

South beaches are pretty busy. Inland has plenty of room. Welcome to the server I hope you enjoy it here!

Our Tribe (all three of us lol) wouldn't be totally against a wipe, though we did get the first 100% imprint on a Giga! It would suck to lose that but I wouldn't mind starting over again. The game kinda goes dull after so much time and being high level etc etc etc...... We'd be all for a wipe if we could go to the Center Map though We tried a different server (shortly after starting this one) on the center, the map looked great but the server wasn't much fun. We love this server and the community that's on it, and would love to have something new (center map) and everything/everyone starting from zero would only build the community that much more in my opinion. edit: and now that I read the patch notes (that I've been waiting for, for months lol, I'm sooooo for a wipe and a fresh start preferably on a new map) phase 3 breeding mechanics pushed back, bridges pushed back, etc...

I would be for a wipe For sure the game is getting to the point that there is nothing to do. A fresh start on a new map would be great.

How did I miss this thread?!? lol I just now posted in the "shoutbox" that i wouldn't be opposed to one. ALL of my plans involve some form of tribe self-wipe, which is an immense amount of work solo, as my other guys don't play much during the summer. (Till Canada freezes back over and there quits being so many annoying activities for families to do outside like pokemon go lol What I really need/want is a tribe of active people lol. So if we wipe I'm either LOOKING FOR TRIBE or LOOKING FOR TRIBE MEMBERS. Whichever.

Gigas, and any dino really except titano, are a dime a dozen thx to breeding. Just gotta ask around for who's got a good bloodline. 2 gigas is a breeding pair, so natural to keep around, 3 could be 2 for breeding from best blood and one wild tame, that's what we have

I recently came back to the game after a few months of being away, my main reason for leaving is still an issue(lack of single player story or any kind of arking questline system....) but I figureed that will all the updates the game would atleast have more to do. Sadly I see that nothing has really changed other than a new biome and a crap ton more dinos, though there are a few items and features I have yet to check out(I have not dabbled into anything as of yet). I would not be opposed to a full wipe(though I just built my home T_T). But if there is a wipe of everything, I would like to put in my vote to use the other map.(The Center) as it has tons more exploration expansion to it rather than the map that everyone now has memorized.

Now that the center has loot crate drops, i wouldn't mind changing to the center. Though if i remember correctly the reason Enron left Valhalla server they were on, was because it would not be really updated with actual content, and now that the center is an "official" mod, they might be actually updating it. Though in the end, the admins have the full final say in the matter. Though either way, im still probably gonna play on this server

I suppose ill throw my two cents in the mix. As far as a wipe goes, I'm torn but not opposed. I have projects I'd like to finish, but that's not a fair reason on my part to resist a wipe. A wipe will serve as a temporary re-invigoration, but essentially we will all be on the same spiral to potential burnout. Those of us still here now will likely still be here 4 months after we have restarted post wipe. Ark has no direction... there is no end game... no quests... etc. Your own imagination and arbitrary goals are what makes it worth playing. Some of us just cannot function like that, or lose interest faster; not all can be enticed by a sandbox game with no real objective.
IF we wipe, I would not recommend the center. I have played there; it was a blast and it is a beautiful map. But for those of you worried about things to do, you will run out of them faster there than on the island. The center is often behind in updates (redwoods); for the last month or so there were no direbears or mosas, and plesis were scarce; there are no real caves, and those that exist are easily exploited with a flyer; due to spawns, caves are almost impossible on foot. It would serve as a great change, but again it would only be a temporary fix to an underlying problem which is the game we play. Ark is a great game but it lacks objective in PvE; I don't plan to stop although I'll likely have my slowdowns.
If you want end game, go underwater. Go do the swamp cave or snow cave. Construct building projects. That is your end game as of now. A wipe will only postpone the inevitable.
Verdict... I'm not opposed. I'd probably abstain from another vote b/c i cannot really decide (or I'll just vote yes for the heck of it.) But if wiped, it needs to be done for the right reasons. Not some false sense of game changing re-invigoration. You won't have your lvl 275 dinos anymore, but lets be real here... the game isn't hard; remember, more time taken =/= difficulty. And starting over only lasts so long! #realtalk
PS - if we wipe, would it be possible to get the save data for SP? (just for a videos sake)

Really need ability to build in caves on center to make it the best I'm thinking I may enable it in mine. Mostly just because of the underworld cave. Building in caves, that is, with the understanding that anything in the way, possibly also any assisting structures left behind, would be demo-able no questions asked. ark.gamepedia.com/Underground_World is what i'm talking about if you think i'm nuts... the whole place exists as an underground place... it shouldn't even be considered a cave by the game imo. kinda sad that it is. Not to derail the topic... not saying AaH should go Center. I'd be happy w/ island again or center. If nothing changes I'll just keep on working on what i'm workin on, the proto-city type snow outpost/water pen thing
