This is a bit of a sad post for me to write. I've enjoyed this game and the people we have played with for over a year now to the tune of 1500+ hours of playtime.
With the announcement of the paid DLC, all drive for the game is gone for me. I have no desire to play, no hope for the new content etc. The company killed a fan with that one. While me quitting is one thing, I've got a server here where up to 20 people a night come on and enjoy the game still. I've been doing my best to keep it up to date and help with issues, assigning two new Admins to look out for things because I knew I wasn't going to really be playing much.
However, what started out as a group of 4 of us paying into the 120/3 months to keep the server active has slowly diminished to the point where the bulk of cost and administration is being done by me. I don't want to do that anymore, nor put any more money towards a game I don't believe in.
With that, I will no longer be making the automatic payment. That leaves the server with some choices.
We can let the server die: The server will close down likely before Halloween (sometime around oct 23rd.)
Server can be paid via donations and I can teach the new admins how to do updates etc (if they even WANT that responsibility).
We can possibly figure out how to transfer the account to a new person if someone wants to step up. (do not know the validity of this one.)
(I don't want anyone to feel like they've wasted their time here either. I will open up uploading if we decide to let the server die.)
When/If the game is actually finished, I will probably return and may make a server again.

Nash, I totally understand where you are coming from. Do what YOU need to do. Thank you for setting up, paying, and running the server for as long as you have. It was fun chatting with all the new people, and watching you guys build amazing things. Hopefully Wild Card will finish the game and we can all play again.

I will also be available for any Admin's that need technical assistants in supporting the server.
I will return when the game is finished!

Yeah, agreeing a bit with helbella. Im personally just amazed with how long you've kept the server up, and still interacted with the rest of the community.
Personally, I cut off contact with a lot of my other friends, that don't play ark, to play this game, and more specifically on this server. I would be willing to pay a lot of the costs of the server, and even help update the server/admin in-game if the extra help is needed. Don't know how i would handle the responsibility of having the the full payment/transfer on me though if it came to that. Ark is mostly all i have now anyways.

i'm irresponsible enough to donate large amounts to keep it up, and irresponsible enough to offer to be some kind of admin. My problem is that my entire ARK experience has been cyclical, with my joining a new or wiped server, spending a hard month or two of hours playing, then there being a race between whether I get bored enough to quit versus the server naturally dying off from lack of interest. Every time I feel detached from the game, ready to quit forever, I get subtly drawn back in, though that may be happening less often and i'll be able to completely snap away like I did with 7 Days to Die.
ths server has been less densely populated for the past week or so, possibly corresponding to the paid DLC release. If most of those people end up drifting back, or if enough new people come in to replenish them, i'd say definitely keep the server up. Otherwise, depending on how many are left to support it, there'd probably need to be some drastic change made.

Tribe Paco's R Us joined this server a little over a month ago. My friend LeeLucky and I were new to the game and found this server to be a wonderful home. Since then we have brought in 2 more of our friends. As of yesterday we bought another friend the game who planned on joining us. We've enjoyed every minute and wish we bought the game sooner and had found this community sooner. It all feels like it is ending too soon I personally would be willing to donate to keep this alive. Sorry to see you go though Nash. You're brilliant and created something special here. Kudos! I hope this company gets their shit together and finishes the game... though I know how you feel when it comes to losing faith. Having over 1k hours in both Rust and 7d2d, I don't ever expect an alpha to finish :/ Would be nice to see one break that mold... Thank you for everything <3

Well, once/if this server ends up closing it will be the end of Ark all together for me. At least it will be for a while, I was staying on the game just for this server lol. I have no intentions to pay for a new gam... I mean add-on dlc(yea right...), when the original code is still in such a mess.Sadly, this server was also one of the last few multiplayer games I still play. I guess now is a good time to start into 7D2D lol.

7d2d is an amazing game, but I grew tired of it after about 120 hours. after that I had max level everything and was basically just playing to skill up. Could take out any horde on my own without much issue. Needs a new endgame imo.

Well, frankly the voting has surprised me a little. I guess we have a pretty tightly knit community that likes playing the game with some degree of difficulty.
We still have over a month of time until the decision has to be made, so what I'll do is keep tabs of donations and if we hit the number, we'll start again for the following 3 months.
I'll be teaching swoljaboy how to update and use bluefang and some in depth knowledge of the configs. him watching for updates at night and me keeping an eye out while at work should keep us more up to date than we ever have been.

I put down ARK for a few weeks to focus on WoW's freshest xpac and this happens? lol. - What's up.Ark Against Humanity is one of the best ARK servers for players who like to have a populated server running stable PvE vanilla ark w/ sped up taming. Basically official ARK, but less stupid. Active admins have always been a huge bonus to AaH as well. The sheer number of steady and returning players here speaks for itself in terms of community. The only limit is the game itself, and thankfully we don't have rates jacked up so high the game is over in a few hours. By now, there's more going on here than a group of friends getting together and starting a game server. There are plenty of people out there that like vanilla, official ark, where stuff is hard and you have to progress through each tier, but where you don't have to AFK to tame Dinos or deal with a lame/negative/toxic community. It's not that crazy of a dream really. AaH set the groundwork, and kept a relatively positive and healthy atmosphere. What we've got now is the community that results from a bit of advertising work and healthy social interaction weaved into compelling gameplay. You get something special. My Wow guild's the same way. A home home people will come back to anytime they wanna play the game. - Going ForwardWhile I can't speak to long term, I'm not at all surprised we've got offer's for donations for at least the next re-up. I think the server would pay for itself tbh if admins/other community members did some (small scope) and transparent funding "drives" from time to time vs. just "hey guys.. any time you wanna help.." (Yes, I know fund raising is a horrible job, and not fun and not gameplay lol)Not saying for in game rewards, just to raise awareness among people that can afford and would be happy to donate. Just gotta keep new people coming in too If anything I'd like the rates to be even lower tbh lol, aside from taming but this is a nice balance for people with limited play time. Ricktor and I already had possible plans to start another small server with vanilla rates, but AaH taming/breeding rates, since Netflix and Tame(tm) is stupid on vanilla. The idea being that you have your complete end-game base at each tier, and have time to fully experience the game at all levels instead of a few days of grinding levels till the only thing left to do is spend hours grinding metal and crystal on your OP dinos three days into your game. IMO, this type of game play is way more fun. If you manage to snag a bear or something at low level, you get to feel awesome for a while as well lol. You can get the same feeling from an early raptor tame as you can from a 160% melee 100% imprint giga baby btw... if you didn't know Keeping AaH open will be worth it for a lot of ARK players. Many of whom haven't even heard of AaH yet - Dino Dave/ TL;DR:Anyways, as I told Nash, I was only declining admin as a temp thing. I knew I'd be MIA for a while for this new WoW expansion, which is pretty awesome by the way. I'd be happy to help out AaH as I start playing ARK more again. I had mine and Ricktor's Center server for a while before dropping that when AaH adopted the same map If I end up admin, between the three of us we should be able to keep things at least in controlled chaos I'd think >.<, even if a couple of us have to take a break for a while. The trifecta seems to have worked for AaH in the past to keep the all-important active-admin thing going lol. Or not, that's fine too, i can just bug Swolja for halps lol. Mazion, a youtuber, a.k.a. Sl1pg8r's brother, put forward the thought that the ARK devs have always planned there to be multiple types of ARKs where you can tame dinos in one, and take them to another, based on what you wanted, and where you wanted to live. He's had this idea for some time. I chose to believe in that idea for the time being. A desert biome would have been aweful cramped, with no room to reach it's full potential on The Island anyways. Couple that with the procedurally generated ARKs... yeah, I chose to believe we haven't seen the end of ARK and we haven't seen the end of AaH either

They've pretty much confirmed this, but it KILLS the private server, unless I want to pay for how many expansion packs they come out with worth of servers? They need a better way of implementing to help the private server community. Also a way to limit where transfers come from. A gloabl "bring whatever over" is just not feasible. Need to be able to say you're allowed xfers from this IP and that IP and not any others to make this work.

also, we've had an influx of donations already, meaning we'll be up for 3 more months post oct.
if they continue at that rate, maybe we could run multiple servers (but from what i have seen that won't happen lol)

Haha. I just meant they're still building their vision of ark vs. some wacky money grab lol. afaik the base files for the "expansion" are in the game everyone has minus the map and maybe some scorched earth only structures, so people could possibly bring dinos from other arks to vanilla servers. Who knows Awesome to hear about the donations for now

I can totally feel for you Nashiq. I try to be understanding and don't mind the DLC (kinda) but NOT when they have so many things still to work out with the base system. The DLC announcement was more then a bit of a shock with a not yet "completed" game. That being said, though I've only been here about a month it's been a great server with friendly and helpful people and you should be very proud of it. I'll definitely be donating to keep it up and running.

I can't help but feel partially to blame for the lack of inactivity here.
I certainly empathize with Nash (regarding the DLC) here and as an Admin who helped start this server I have to give mad kudos to Nashiq, who took ownership and was vital in keep things going when other admins stopped playing.
AAH MVP Award goes to Nashiq for sure.
I've played this game since a few months after release. I've loved the fact that I can come back to it again and again. I adore the community we've built here and don't wish to lose that. When I do have a moment to log in and say hello, it's like I never left. Like old friends.
Personally I miss talking to you all, but the game has been hit and miss with me lately, especially now with the DLC. So I've voted to keep things going. I've payed for this server and will continue to do so. I'll also continue to Admin when I can. Nash and the other admins are much faster to respond then I have been, for that I apologize.
For my own part though I do need to have a goal to enjoy this game. Been thinking of going solo recently....so while I'm not playing 6 hours a day you will see me on. I'm still looking forward to the full release and plan on playing full time then, if RL permits.
AAH has become a gaming family, I'd like to keep it that way.
Peace!

Hello All,
I can understand your frustration Nashiq, I hope you can find it within yourself to stay a member of the AAH community. I'm willing to donate 6 months worth of fees and am also willing to switch the server into my name to ensure it survives into the future. There aren't many games/servers out there that are moderated or have our level of community friendship. I have no interest in being an admin of any kind and also don't want anything in return.
I think you have taken the right steps in appointing new admins and hope they will stay engaged in our community. I like that we have a set of rules and a code of conduct. Those two things go a long way in setting AAH apart from other gaming servers.
I think me should consider switching our map every six-nine months to keep our community engaged and bring fresh perspective to AAH's gaming experience. I think we have our rates at the right level, as they help keep the game from becoming Grinding Evolved.
If the server moves into my name, I will host periodic funding drives. In the real world I'm a sales man and have no problem asking people for money. Feel free to reach out to me in game or through the forum.

So now that the SE server is up and running, those of us still playing the original server have noticed a little bit of an alarming trend:
No admins. Swoljaboy has been playing SE a lot (and he has every right to, these are games after all!) but he had been the only one consistently on lately, especially in the night prime times (7-midnight eastern).
Players affected by tribe and character loss have continued to log in, ask for an admin, and been stuck saying "well...I guess I'll try again later". How many times until they give up entirely?
Any chance we can have one or two more admins brought up to speed? There are a few players that seem like they would be very capable admins. Titania comes to mind.

marx2 is right and this has been kind of an issue for me as well, as seeing the server basically empty most of the time now is very disillusioning, especially with the implication that this is permanent.
my other concerns are mostly my own problem of having been playing ARK basically several hours a day basically nonstop since late August 2015. I've kept up mostly by starting over again every month or so, due to server wipe or shutdown and move to a new server, but over time I've been steadily losing interest more and more, and having bad nostalgia for older times in Ark before I basically mastered every single thing and was overawed by every little animal. And having been spoiled by certain mods and highly specific server settings, it's gotten almost impossible now to find the right server. I have no desire to start over on another server yet again.
essentially the only thing really keeping me in now is the community and that's been slowly dwindling and now been divided by the DLC, I don't know what to do anymore.
