This question has been brought up to me a couple times, so I'm going to have a vote about it. How many people got the DLC? is there interest in using donations to fund a 2nd server?

you all know my feelings on this. I have no desire to support the DLC, but if the demand is there, and people are willing to pay for it, i'll host it (though i won't be able to log in and check things out, as I don't own it.)

I bought the DLC, and have been playing it on a server I host for just a couple of friends. I have been enjoying it so far. Running this DLC in an open server for anyone, people have to understand you are going to have a lot of neighbors, there is very little water, and you need to be close to water until at least level 50-60. I bought the DLC because honestly I love ARK, I love that Wild Card has made a game I have spent hours upon hours playing. Yes I think they should have finished the core game first, but honestly they are still updating like every other week, fixing patches, or adding new continent. I have not given up on Wild Card yet. The new DLC has a much smaller map, and a lot more challenging with weather conditions, terror birds, and wolves spawning in the "easy" area. The map is beautiful, the new dinos are great, and I love it so far.
On a side note, hosting a server is ALOT of work, and I hate it. LOL Nash, I also did not vote regarding the server being shut down or not, because after hosting a server, especially with mods, I understand now how much dedication and work you put into it. It is awesome to hear community opinions, and I love that you care, but when it comes down to it, the choice is yours: your time, your effort, your money (mostly). I plan to continue playing on ARK Against Humanity Server as long as I can.

The amount of donations that have come in the 2 days since I posted that, we could host 2 servers. That's the only reason for this current thread.

I have not had the opportunity to purchase the DLC or donate yet. I stress yet. While I agree with others about a paid DLC at this stage, like Helbella, I love ARK and want to continue to support its development. I plan to donate on a regular basis to keep the server running. I would love to see Scorched Earth attached to this server. I really like the idea of the cross server transfer they have created. But I don't know if the server population wants that. I think it's a neat idea.

All I ask is that people be objective when making their vote. Despite what our individual feelings are about the practice of releasing a paid DLC at this time, it is there. It exists. People want to use it. It makes sense that those same people wish to use it alongside the same server, admins, and community they have come to love.

I want a 2nd AAH server because I want my cake and to eat it too - I love my ARK (now in 2 flavours) and my online community, with the power to move to both locations and have the same groovy mix of mods. Of course running anything well costs $$ and time. Thank You Admin for your devotion so far. I'm happy to donate! P.S. Good Luck with Paladins!!

Haven't bought the DLC yet as I'm still fairly steamed about it coming about before many much needed fixes/updates. That being said it seems interesting enough and maybe a good idea if it had come out at a more proper time. If there is an interest I'd have no issue with funds I donated being used for it. It might even inspire me to pick it up...which could be considered a good or bad thing!

One other thing to keep in mind with all this, not funding a server to play the DLC on does nothing to harm Wildcard or make any kind of statement. Companies like Game Servers and Bluefang run the server and get paid for the subscription. If people are voting against this idea because they have a beef with Wildcard over the DLC, that's misdirected. All that does is make people who DID buy the DLC have to look elsewhere for another server to play. Personally, if I decide to buy the DLC, I would rather play it among the community I already know and love. I get it. I do. Many people think this was handled poorly by Wildcard. Maybe it was. But as long as the costs are covered for the Center server, why not allow donations to fund the Scorched Earth server?

doesn't bluefang have to pay wildcard for server licenses? That's usually how it goes.

They might get a small licensing fee if at all. But since server software is generally general use license, I doubt it. We can use the game client itself to set up a server of our own at home or host local games at no extra cost. They likely pay a one-time licensing fee to become an official supplier of servers. But that would not be dependent on number of users.

So does the vote mean we will be getting a new server?

not sure. it's by no means a unified vote. pissing off 1/3rd of our population isn't something I want to do.
