I'm watching videos and such, but essentially what it looks like, is another mechanic that seems backwards.

So, first of all, the decay rate on fishing poles is ridiculous. I was messing around with a blue rod with 200 durability. I assumed, ok, 1 per use, 200 fishing attempts.

No.

5 per. OK, so now we have something of extremely limited use. Lovely. So I started fishing at Cloud's fishing shack. I kept looking for the sabertooth salmon but, despite my best efforts, they proceeded to ignore my leech blood. 10 coals for 10 attempts, a colossal waste.

I started reading into how to get MC/ASC rods. You know...to actually get something of value. You basically have to kill alpha squids, or get really lucky in a cave. So here's my thought on THAT. If you can already kill off alpha squids, go on deep loot crate runs, basically everything you need to do in game...what's even the point of fishing then? You're already golden.

The entire fishing mechanic seems flawed to me, but really the decay rate on use ticks me off the most. It makes me not want to even bother.

I always assumed this, however I don't walk into fishing expected to get amazing loot with a blue or purple fishing poll.

I do, however, expect to get something meaningful - even if it's something like a blue schematic or a purple item that I actually don't need.

I'm not looking to get OP from it, but for the decay cost involved, it seems the ROI is just terrible. I know people will say "your sample size is small" and this is true. However, I thought I'd come here for perhaps insight I'm not aware of (I have been playing this server for just over a month now, and I'm still fairly a novice in many ways)

I think considering you get the fishing rod for free most times (in loot beacons or as part of loot drops), the low durability thing is hardly an issue most of the time unless you're grinding hard for as many rods as possible

Mostly the best use for fishing rods for me if they are of low quality or if I've exhausted my blueprint catch pool is for large amounts of fish meat and prime fish meat
