Torch Mod
I like the idea of this mod. I have always loved the look that the torches give in this game but currently it's rather annoying to keep up the mats to be able to use them all the time. Not to mention the task of running around to all the ones you place and manually turning them on and off. As opposed to the lights in the game where you need to fill up a generator once a month to have unlimited light. It would be just adding another aesthetic choice to the game for those that want more variety. I know that we are hesitant to add mods that will break the game and I completely understand that but I do not believe that this one would fall into that category. The torches require the same mats as the ones that are in the game by default they just don't require fuel to turn on. Also, with the ability to change the gamma in game it would not really reduce the impact of nights/darkness. The only issue that I can see from this is that it may cause some localized lag from trying to render all the flame graphic effects at once.

I feel the same about the torches to certain degree, cosmetic mostly.
I love the derby mod, that is worth taking a look at.

when I use mods for lighting, I go with the Crystal Lamps mod. Gives another use for crystal and they look so nice. Plus those longer lasting torches are awesome and the fact the lamps don't use power is even more so XD I know it may seem cheaty or what not to some because of the lack of power, but the cost of the things make up for it really and lets be honest, no one like the way power cables work XD

They don't require electricity and run forever... It's a little cheating to me. lamps should use power or burn a resource.

edited my post as you responded lol but if its the lack of resource cost whats the difference in the forever burning no resource ones?

I can see that, and I suppose the standing torches do give off heat so it would reduce the need for fortitude/fur armor.
Maybe there is a way to increase how long a fully loaded torch will burn for? If you could load it up and it would burn for a month that would be awesome.

we can always edit the resource costs cant we? if someone has knowledge of unreal engine and wants to help me learn I have no issues trying to dev a few server mods specifically for this server ^_^ I have been wanting to learn ark modding (not making only maps! >_<) for a while now.

Longer lasting standing/wall torches are already in-game with the use of Angler Gel. Or with hand held torches the use of a higher quality torch (ramshackle of above with higher durability) allows for longer lasting torches....if you can find one. I have yet to find one. But I keep farming those white drops for one.

All good, I appreciate the discussion/feedback. I will just have to continue to wander around my base and make the torch sound out loud. If you would like a recording to use for your own needs I am willing to sell it for a nominal price.

Why don't you guys offer journeyman torches for participation rewards at the next race?? So it's still taking effort to achieve, still possible to lose and no extra modding required. Also, I have to vote against any heavy modding at all, is the risk truly worth the reward??? It's great as is. I think we can be creative with events and goals. How about a weekend where teams have to head into a cave and Dink spawns in something crazy they have to defeat to get out with a decent reward. Structured cave adventuring D n D style?? Lol
Great job btw admin.

....or take an area and make a coliseum type area where we can participate or watch singles or teams take on pre chosen spawned in Dino's. Create standings over a month or something. I'd watch and jump into that for sure. ??

We have one of our own working on a purely cosmetic furniture/decoration mod Knowing him it's going to be awesome. This is the kind of mod I'd like to see, as the worst that can happen with it is, we lose what we've built with it. We're slowly trying more events. We did some trivia this afternoon. Can't do everything all at once or I'd get boring.

I know that servers I have been on in the past they gave out monthly rewards to people that vote for the server. They limited the amount of times that people could win, or put them on a timer to allow others a chance as well. They also held banner contests as well.

I would support artwork, but I would prefer to leave voting and donations strictly voluntary.

Steampunk Mod: steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=679529026&searchtext=CVNash and Nails have heard me mention this far too many times in-game, so they know that one single player is interested. Not a great reason to research or consider adding it to the game. Posting it here to gauge other players thoughts. Yes, I'm a huge fan of Steam Punk. But it also seems that stage of technological development was skipped in Ark although perhaps I'm missing tools that represented this area of human/specimen development. Steam power preceeded electricity just as very clever mechanical devices such as the "The Writer"* came well before say... a working GPS, laser sights and the Tek Armor on the horizon. (The mod is planning Steam Punk Armor!) It doesn't 'seem' like it would make the game too easy but like the rounded walls, if the mod has issues everything made with it would crash and burn. It's also nice to post something that doesn't start with "I have a problem ..." (: *18th Century automata: www.atlasobscura.com/places/jaquet-droz-automata

my issue with this mod is it's not a green puzzle piece from what i can see. meaning it modifies in game files. this is bad in a game that's not finished.

Could we up the difficulty level to level 5 as I heard sl1ipg8r say in a recent video so the highest possible animal is level 150

4 was max for the longest time. If 5 is the new max we may do that. 150 used to be aku shima only (a large mod that changed a lot of things.) what i'd love to do is make the tame cap the same as wild. your rex will be capped at 150 and so would the one it's fighting. far more dangerous, more survival!

Yeah or a 150 alpha ?

I 2nd the difficulty raise.
Capping tames would take fun away from people that like to level up things and breeding for higher levels.

Doesn't look like we can without a mod. We are currently at difficulty offset 1.0 which is as high as you can put it. The center may have a 150 dino level tweak inside it.
I wouldn't call it a difficulty raise though. 150 tames mean even more powerful dinos making the game even more of a joke in the survival category. With tames getting 118+ levels and breeding giving even more over regular wild dinos, the game is a building simulator with riding dinos for fun.
