So as most of you know I work for a gaming company. (I'm a database administrator) Our main game is SMITE: Battleground of the Gods We just released a new one into open beta yesterday. It's been in dev for almost 2 years now so we're all pretty excited about it. Oddly enough I just downloaded that yesterday (Saw it pop up on recommended in Steam). Have yet to give it a go but will definitely give you some feedback once I do.

Gave this game a shot since it's not the kind of game I'd play of a reg. basis I was pretty skeptical. I have to say, the few hours I've been able to play have been quite fun. It's easy to learn, fun quick game play and looks pretty good. The basic characters are cool and leveling them up is pretty straight forward. You can pay cash to improve your characters, but it's not required to enjoy the game and it's certainly not 60$ like Overwatch.
I had a few issues with connecting to a match, and there is an opportunity for interface and some queuing improvements. But that's all to be expected in a game still in Beta. None of this detracted from the game in general though.
If you've never played TF2 or Overwatch I'd highly suggest Paladins for people new to the genre.

Well, finally got a chance to try Paladins (Thank you business trip and some great wifi at my rental) I've been getting an error on my main system (I think from previous bits and pieces from Tribes) but amazingly, enough my laptop came thru for me. I have to say it seems to be a lot of fun! Yes, I can see some peoples gripes about some similarities with Overwatch but I see that mostly as them pulling from the same older games than anything else. That being said they are both their own beasts. I'll need to play more to give some in-depth reviews but I recommend people try for themselves before making any judgements...and heck it's free so you just can't beat that! Been putting in 60-70 hour weeks working lately because paladins has exploded.  Really happy with the progress, but I've been limited to an hour, maybe 2 of gaming a night the last couple weeks because of this. |
