Hello,
My name is TESTEFY-HD (Randy) and my wifes name is DESTRIER29 (Robin). I have been big into PC gaming and love MMO's and haven't found one that interested me since I last played Star Wars Galaxies. I have been more into FPS games as of late but the Neebs Gaming guys on youtube started doing a weekly Ark series that brought me to buy this game. My wife liked that ark videos from Neebs so much we took her tax return money and built her a pretty powerful gaming pc.
We have tried playing without any help and all we end up doing is getting killed by multiple dinos or die from freezing. We need some help to get over the hump and help understand the game. I am hoping there are some people here who are willing to help us get going or let us join there tribe. We live on the west coast in Las Vegas. I have downloaded your discord and have teamspeak also.

I would highly recommend just continuing to farm and place resources in a small hut/lockbox until you can get high enough HP to take on dilo's and the like with spears (make many, they break)
After that you start spam crafting to level. (cloth hats, campfires, narcotics all work well). pretty soon you'll be high enough to get tranq arrows and a cross bow and start hunting dinos to tame.
a lot of taming is using the environment to your advantage as well. running around boulders and the like so they can't hit you while you turn around and peg them once you've reloaded.
the initial survival week is the most fun part of the game for most people, once you get established and the fear of death is gone, it's really just a building/tame better dinos game.
stick to the beaches to start. they're the least dangerous areas. South is by far the safest zone, but also the most crowded.

You can try joining by going to this site and clicking on the IP address at the top and launching the game. toparkservers.com/server/172.93.106.34:7780once you make a character you do it by filtering on "my survivors" |

This server is known for helpful players and close community. Feel free to ask all the questions you like. There's nearly always a tribe out there willing to recruit new players and teach them the ropes. Personally I think it helps to learn the basics first, maybe get to a point where you can tame a Carno or at least a raptor on your own. More tribes are willing to recruit you and teach the advanced skills. To echo what Nashiq said and provide my own tips in no particular order: -Take your time. As you've already found you'll die a lot. (we have dino/corpse finder mods to help find you body when you die). PLus the decay timer on body/bag has been double to 30 min, givning you plenty of time to find your gear after dying. -South beaches tend to be safer, but again as safe spawn points they tend to be crowded -Tame some dilos to follow you around and protect you (farm hide with). -Trikes are the best early dino you can tame, they fight well, farm berries faster then by hand and can carry a decent amount. -Tame Petra using a bola and tranq arrows ASAP. Flight is essential to scout and bring back metal, crystals. -You can get some raw metal early by farming river (shiny) rocks. -Build on the beach a small outpost with wood walls (at least 3 high) to protect your dinos and gear. Then later find a more permanent spot. Inland is more open but more dangerous. -REMOVE YOUR GEAR AND STORE IT BEFORE LOGGING OFF. The game is still in alpha testing and you can die while off line. I clicked the link from the website and the game started. it has a window open saying finding game, Attempting to join a game from Invite or direct Join... do i click accept or cancel? It also says Installing 1 Mods (Pub Mod) in the bottom right corner?

Going through the voting site is essentially a invite/direct join. Last i checked it was just telling you that's how it's joining.
We currently have 8 mods on the server. There's a few large ones that you'll need to download first. This can take some time and you may even need to reload if it times out.
Another way to get the mods in advance is to search for them in the Steam Workshop and Subscribe to them.

I was able to get my character into the server, now getting my wifes computer going. we will be playing probably tonight. i think I am going to have to update my graphics card though. I knew ARK was intense but damn.... her new rig should play it perfectly

I survive on low graphics, 4G and all that. It's not too bad, better than so much lag the game is unplayable. Good luck!

Once you get settled Myself along with a few other individuals would be happy to provide you with some transportation. As part of a suggested "Argent Initiative" we like to assist other players who are new to the game and thus be as helpful as possible. As for me Im part of BarBarry and we are on at sporatic hours. All individuals ranging from students to contractors, we are mostly East cost but would be happy to welcome you to the server. We are all the sum of its parts and what makes this server unique.

im testefys wife he just resently started useing my computer to play a bit while im not on but his computer needs upgrades,
lolz, ive been on every night so far, im still trying to find his tribe base and someone from that tribe to join but no one seems
to be on that late so im going it alone so far

I apologize for my disappearance. Getting my wife her new computer put a big magnified glass on my computer and shows I need a new video card to make the game playable. I appreciate anyone who helps Destrier, and if my Tribe members can invite her at least one of us will be around everyday, more at night PST.
